You are being programmed

Life is exactly what you make of it. I know it’s one of those sayings that sounds fluffy and ridiculous, but the deeper you go on your spiritual path, the more that phrase starts to make sense. The problem is we weren’t taught how to make something of it. We were taught how to make something out of ourselves.

I know you need to address the basics in your life: food, shelter and clothing. Once you achieve that though, there are no psychological needs, according to Michael Singer. The thing is, we ruin our lives based on our psychological suffering.

If you’re here reading, chances are you’re not OK and have recognized that something isn’t quite right with the world. I can’t help but think of one of Morpheus’ first lines to Neo in the Matrix film, “You know something. What you know, you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.” If that’s you, this post may resonate.

We are programmed and conditioned by society from such an early age that we don’t even know what neutrality is. There’s a famous quote from Aristotle in 300 BC, “Give me a child until he is 7 and I will show you the man.” That in itself raises a lot of questions and goes to show how stubborn stored programs can be. The trouble is, we are taught to accept it as a norm and never really know if distorted programming can be undone. Humans are already locked in a perceptual prison (we know we only experience a fraction of the electromagnetic spectrum, maybe for survival reasons) and adding layers on top of your psyche only creates further limitations.

All of the books I’ve read, especially the Castaneda series of books (which is inspired by a blend of religions and dogmas), speaks about the importance of perception. How we perceive things is based fundamentally on past programming. These are often stored energetic imprints, not just concepts based on language. Pure awareness of being and consciousness is anything but neutral. It’s ecstasy, as Michael Singer describes it. The problem is, that energy is being suppressed and funnelled through the ego or the personal mind. This true default state (it doesn’t seem to be the default) is buried under so many layers of faulty programming, it’s difficult to reach that state of being. If you do, it’s usually for extremely short periods of time. Things like lack of sleep, bad food and an unhealthy outward lifestyle also weigh on perception and create more distortion.

In truth, if you are prepared to put in the work, you can decide how to experience reality. The more layers you’re able to peel back (programming undone), the more your willpower will make a difference. Some people call that manifestation. The thing is, as energy starts to flow properly, your goals may no longer be selfish. You put yourself aside to focus on something bigger than self (life) and only then can you experience the beauty and power of this energy. Paradise is a state of being achievable in this incarnation, but there is a darker flip side that we should address, because to most it just sounds like fantasy.

I talked recently about the danger of rabbit holes. This relates to another aspect of programming. Mainstream narratives often keep people asleep, confused (there is no obvious answer/resolution and a stream of never-ending information) and divided. This is what being lost in the Matrix looks like. Being consumed by thoughts of self is also equally dangerous. That is based on past programming, events and situations that shaped who you are (or who you think you are). Most people fit into this category and explains why the majority of people are overwhelmed and tired, they are hopelessly distracted. In the AI information age, things are going to get worse unless we do something about it. If your consciousness is distracting by disturbing things, it is going to be disturbed. Your perception of the world shapes your reality, so that’s why we need to work on removing that filter. Castaneda calls it ‘the power of silence’ in his books, or ‘stopping the mind’. Buddhists call it empty mind. How do you practically reach that place, though?

I think you have to start by understanding that there is no objective world out there until you have removed the veil. The reason we are so divided is because everyone sees reality based on their own programming – their life experiences were completely different from yours. There is nothing fixed. These filters of the mind take people out of the present moment and stop you experiencing the world for what it is. It’s in the moments of silence, presence and pure awareness that you really live. Little things can bring unexpected joy. Singer says you have to start with the small stuff. Stop letting things like the driver in front bother you. Even though it seems petty, that in itself is programming and adding more garbage to an otherwise filthy storehouse (your personal mind). Once you start relaxing over things like that, the energy can then flow through and won’t be stored. You can have a memory of something to learn from it without all the charge if you let it pass through. Once you start practicing and working your way up to bigger things, the negative energy of past conditioning will naturally start to purge. Relaxing and releasing are the keys to deal with the uncomfortable and disturbing energies. The more you do it in day to day life, the more detached you remain no matter how outrageous the narrative, little by little life becomes more peaceful.

Programming can be undone, you can take the (best) journey to becoming nobody and all hope is not lost. You have the power to turn your life into something special. My advice would be to listen to as much of Michael Singer’s work as possible, it’s a great place to start.
