From ego to I am

3 May 2026
Sometimes, no matter how hard you try to do your best, life wears you down to a thread. People call the ups and downs of life normal, but when you really look into what it’s like to be human, is the juice worth the squeeze?
Chances are, if you’re on the lookout for information, you’re more than likely in the ‘not OK’ category. That’s alright, probably 99.9999% of the population are ‘average’ men/women. By average, I mean the default state of being is ‘not OK’. As Michael Singer says these average people are OK when the stars align and they get what they want, but most of the time, reality doesn’t tend to match one person’s preferences. How can it given that everyone is so different? A wise being gets to the point where they realize the outside world is not going to make them OK. The true work is inside, under the heavy layers of our conditioning/programming.
Singer, who uses Yogic principles to make a lot of his points, insists that the default state of being is actually not negative. In fact it’s not even neutral. Singer says that it’s ‘ecstatic’. The only problem, none of us feel that way. That’s because of these blockages, or essentially our ego/personal mind. If we want to feel that ecstatic energy, we have to learn how to untether the ego, undo all that programming and basically take out the trash inside. It doesn’t really mean killing off the ego, instead learning to raise the lower self with Self, shadow integration.
On my personal journey, I am finding (as Singer had warned) that the less you let daily life affect you, the heavier layers from the past attempt to purge. That creates all kinds of commotion in the mind, you feel heavy and lifeless and your mind won’t stop talking (it carries a story with those stored energetic imprints). It got me questioning, why? Why do we have to go through all of this torture and pain in life? Honestly, if we look at it sincerely without the acting (tough, because most people are lost in their act), what percentage of life is actually satisfying? The negative outweighs the positive by an embarrassing margin. There are people who would argue this, but in truth they are lost in their own goals/personal desires or in addictions like alcohol and drugs. All that serves to do is prolong the inevitable. Most people don’t actually want to face up to what they’ve buried so numb themselves with something in the outside world.
Back to the point of the post, I came across a pretty interesting content creator and this post grabbed me today. It raises questions around the idea of identity (the character we are given) and all the seemingly unfair trauma that is dished out often at an early age. During dark times, it’s easy to feel like human life is some kind of humiliation ritual and less about soul development. The intro video on their website is fascinating. The creator is called ‘From Ego to I am’. You can also check out their Youtube channel which has some interesting videos. It talks about important issues, like how we are clearly harvested for energy. Castaneda did an excellent job, even if it was a made up story, at explaining what’s going on with human energy in this chapter from the Active Side of Infinity. What is described as an energetic parasite, in simple relatable terms, is the ego. Castaneda described it as the ‘foreign installation’. In esoteric terms, you could call it evil, Satan, the parasite, the Archons, a rogue AI, Draco Reptilians, etc. You can get lost in language, but it’s clear that there’s a force working against us in siphoning human energy and it seems to be related to our interface of perception.
I don’t want this post to be all doom and gloom, because I do think there’s a way out. That’s the point of the ‘from ego to I am’ movement. Castaneda said inner silence and discipline is too much for the parasite and it will eventually flee. I guess in modern terms what he’s trying to say is, don’t get lost in the outside world and the incessant distractions. Staying present and centered through the power of intent is essential. The more you can stay in the moment, the less you’re going to get all involved in the ‘false self’, the ego/personal self which is definitely not your friend. That said, as you become more established in the the seat of self, you can work to raise the lower self and overcome past fears and imprints. The Bhagavad Gita, often quoted by Singer, more or less says, “Elevate yourself through the power of your mind, and not degrade yourself, for the mind can be the friend and also the enemy of the self.”
The below video also offers an interesting take on the nature of reality. Maybe whether we see Earth as a prison planet or a school for consciousness development is a matter of the frequency we are in at any given time. Singer would take a positive spin, but unfortunately the majority of the population is very much trapped in a state of perpetual low awareness. It’s hard not to be negative and feel like a victim when you’re trapped in these lower vibrational bands. We have to put in the inner work and work through the more structural layers to get to a more positive understanding. Only then can we offer ourselves up to others and bring positive energy into everything we do.
